Microsoft (MSFT) introduces a dedicated Xbox game streaming box

MicrosoftMSFT Xbox CEO Phil Spencer revealed the dedicated Xbox game streaming box on Twitter. In Spencer’s tweet, the device can be seen on top of his shelf in Microsoft’s office space.

It’s a compact white box that looks like an Xbox Series S and is used to play Xbox games using the company’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service. Microsoft has yet to officially announce streaming hardware that would allow Game Pass subscribers to access the library anywhere, as long as the title is available on the Xbox Cloud.

Codenamed Keystone, this device is part of the Xbox Everywhere initiative and will allow users to connect the device to their TV to stream games instead of buying a new Xbox console. The Xbox game streaming box will also allow users to access Netflix and other media apps. The company also has an Xbox TV app for 2022 Samsung TVs and monitors. The Xbox TV app allows users to stream games in 1080p resolution.

Microsoft wants to free console gamers from having to use a full console to enjoy the best of Xbox. Game Pass subscribers can access their library via the cloud on mobile devices, laptops and TVs.

Microsoft Xbox Push aims to increase user growth

Microsoft has been working to make it overall easier to run and play games on Xbox. Last month, the company rolled out an Xbox Series X update that allows users to play significantly more Xbox One games offline without mandatory digital rights management checks. Update 2208 does not force users to check online compatibility to play the game from an Xbox One disc.

Users will now be able to install the Xbox One version of the game directly from the Xbox One or cross-gen disc and start playing it. An internet connection will be required to download any updates and enhancement packs for Series X.

We have also started testing the markings on the console’s home screen, thanks to which you can check at a glance whether a given game is currently playable.

Microsoft expects gaming revenue to decline by the low to mid-single digits in the first quarter of fiscal 2023 due to a decline in first-party game content on Xbox consoles.

In terms of games that may come with Xbox Game Pass, ads have been spotted in the Xbox Store for titles such as Elden Ring, Soul Hackers, and GTA V. It appears that all of these titles have recently been adapted to xCloud.

In the three months ended June, Microsoft, Sony SONY i Nintendo Each of the NTDOYs posted disappointing results at their respective gaming companies. In the most recently reported quarter, Microsoft’s gaming revenue declined 7% (down 5% cc) due to declines in Xbox content and services and Xbox hardware.

Nintendo sold 3.43 million units of its Switch handheld console in the quarter, down 23% year over year, while software sales fell 8.6% to 41.4 million units. Sony sold 2.4 million PlayStation 5 consoles this quarter, slightly more than the 2.3 million units it sold in the same period a year ago.

Microsoft gives insight into Xbox Game Pass revenues

Microsoft is currently trying to gain mass advantage Activision Blizzard ATVI merger through regulatory authorities around the world. Activision recently released Overwatch 2, the sequel to Blizzard Entertainment’s popular team-based shooter.

Some data that Microsoft does not typically share publicly with its shareholders ends up in the public domain as a result of legal arguments.

According to Brazilian regulator CADE, Xbox Game Pass subscription revenue was $2.9 billion in fiscal 2021. Based on data publicly released by Microsoft, games on the Xbox platform generated a total of $16.28 billion in calendar year 2021.

According to Tweaktown’s report, Xbox Game Pass accounted for approximately 18% of Microsoft’s total annual Xbox revenue ($16.28 billion) and nearly 30% of gaming and services revenue ($12.581 billion) during the period.

Microsoft’s strategy of not distributing Activision Blizzard games on competing consoles would only be profitable for it if the games attracted a large number of players to the Xbox ecosystem, which would translate into revenues that offset the losses resulting from not selling these titles on competing consoles.
