Kate Bollinger Shares New Single ‘To Your Own Devices’

After several years of releasing some cool EPs and singles, Los Angeles via Richmond musician Kate Bollinger finally shares her debut album Songs from a thousand frames of the mind in September. Last month she released lead single “Any Day Now,” and today she returns with another single titled “To Your Own Devices.”

“To Your Own Devices” is a dreamy, slow track that feels like soaking up the sun. It also has a ’60s singer-songwriter sound to it, which complements the vintage music video that accompanies it. Here’s what Bollinger had to say about it:

When I first moved to Los Angeles, I came across a book of old Japanese designs called I CAN, a word meaning “modern girls”, used to describe fashionable urban women who adopted Western lifestyles and manners in the 1920s. In the book I found a surreal design of a woman underwater with fish swimming around her, wearing a beautiful costume and stirring a giant fish bowl like a pot of soup, and I immediately knew I wanted to recreate the scene for the film’s album cover. I wrote the script for the music video and hired director Nikki Milan Houston as my co-director and production designer. We hired Odie Summers as set designer, and in a friend’s downtown studio, a kitchen set was built within days and came to life thanks to the exceptional skill and dedication of everyone involved.

Bollinger also announced several North American tour dates scheduled for this fall. Check them out and watch the music video for “To Your Own Devices” below.
