Healthcare, construction and trucking among sectors part of PEI PNP draw

Prince Edward Island recently invited 75 skilled worker candidates to apply to immigrate to Canada. The event was part of the latest provincial draw conducted by the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP).

The draw took place on June 24 and was open to candidates from the Labor Impact and Express Entry streams. This initiative is part of PEI’s ongoing efforts to attract skilled workers to support the local economy.

Recent draw of specially selected candidates from the Healthcare and Construction sectors. It was found that there is a high demand for qualified employees in these sectors in the voivodeship.

In addition to health care and construction, the draw also included people whose work permits expired before October in the tourism, agriculture, fishing and trucking and transportation sectors.

By focusing on these specific groups, Prince Edward Island aims to address immediate labor shortages and support key industries in the province. This strategic approach ensures that successful candidates will have a smooth transition into the local workforce and contribute to the province’s economic growth.

PEI Express Entry Category operates by considering candidates already in the federal Express Entry Pool for provincial nomination.

Such a nomination adds 600 points to an applicant’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and effectively guarantees an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian immigration.

The PEI Express Entry category includes two paths to obtain permanent residence in Canada, one for candidates with a job offer and the other for those without a job offer.

Prince Edward Island Work Impact Category offers paths to permanent residence in Canada through its A stream of skilled workers AND Critical employee stream.

For A stream of skilled workersif you have a job offer from PEI and meet the criteria below, you may be eligible for permanent residence. You must have a full-time job offer in a TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 occupation. In addition, you must have completed post-secondary education and have completed at least 14 years of formal education. The qualifying age is between 21 and 55. You should have at least 2 years of full-time work experience in the last 5 years. The position offered requires fluency in English or French, sufficient funds to settle, and a genuine intention to settle in Prince Edward Island.

The Critical employee stream addresses labor shortages and is intended for foreign workers already employed in PEI who are employed in specific, high-demand positions. To qualify, you need a full-time job offer from PEI in positions such as truck driver, customer service representative, laborer, food and beverage server, or janitorial assistant. You must have at least 6 months of work experience with the PEI company offering the position and a valid Canadian work permit. A high school leaving certificate with at least 12 years of formal education is required. Eligible age is 21 to 55 years old. You should also have at least 2 years of full-time work experience within the last 5 years, basic knowledge of English or French, sufficient means to settle, and a genuine intention to settle in Prince Edward Island.
