Expo Mining Expo 2024 in Namibia, which aims to showcase the development and opportunities in the industry

TThe Chamber of Mines has announced that this week’s 11th Mining Fair and Conference will be held on August 7 and 8 at the Windhoek Exhibition Grounds.

This year’s event, sponsored by RMB, promises to be a significant gathering of industry professionals, suppliers and stakeholders.

With 145 companies already booked and 242 stands, Mining Expo 2024 has already exceeded last year’s record demand, said chief executive Veston Malango.

The event is an excellent platform to learn about the latest developments, technologies and career opportunities in Namibia’s growing mining sector.

Attendees can expect to see a variety of exhibitors showcasing cutting-edge innovations. He added that the exhibition will host parallel events, including a mining conference, a supplier platform and business-to-business networking sessions.

According to Malango, Namibia’s mining industry has experienced impressive growth in 2023, contributing significantly to the country’s GDP and employment. The sector recorded a growth rate of 18.9%, increasing its contribution to GDP from 11.9% in 2022 to 14.4% in 2023. Direct employment increased by 12.6% and total taxes paid by the sector increased by 55.9%, reaching NZ$6.861 billion. Gross fixed capital formation also recorded significant growth, reflecting increased investment in mining infrastructure.

This year’s Mining Expo & Conference, held under the theme “Green Shoots for Namibia’s Mining Industry: A Season of Opportunity and Growth Powering Economic Expansion”, will highlight emerging opportunities in the sector.

Key developments include the resurgence of the uranium sub-sector, new gold mining projects such as Osino Resources’ Twin Hills project, and strategic investments to extend the life of existing mines, he said.

According to Malango, Namibia’s role in the global uranium market is set to expand, with production growth expected at key mines such as Rössing and Husab, as well as new projects such as Bannerman’s Etango-8 and Deep Yellow’s Tumas projects. These developments underscore Namibia’s position as a significant player in the global uranium supply, supporting sustainable energy solutions and economic growth.

Advances in battery minerals and precious metals are also expected during the Expo and conference, which will further diversify Namibia’s mining portfolio and enhance its economic resilience.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Mines invited all stakeholders to attend this key event supporting collaboration and innovation in Namibia’s dynamic mining sector.
