ItsonitsRecharge Pro AA and AAA Batteries Review: A Boost for Power-hungry Gadgets

Itson is new to the market and although you may have never heard of this battery manufacturer, it is part of the Advanced Power Solutions group, which includes well-known brands such as the somewhat legendary Panasonic Eneloop AND Eneloop Pro. Eneloop batteries basically changed NiMH batteries forever. They have long been a favorite of mine because they retain their charge for months, even years, rather than self-discharging after a few weeks before I’ve had a chance to actually use them. Itson batteries follow suit but are manufactured in Europe with the aim of ensuring the highest levels of performance, reliability and environmental friendliness, giving them a chance to join the ranks best AA batteries AND best AAA batteries in the shop.

Ecology is an important issue for many of us now, and there is a lot to be said about rechargeable batteries compared to disposable alkaline cells. Of course, this has not escaped the marketing efforts of competing battery manufacturers, but Itson goes further than most. The company’s manufacturing and logistics operations are sustainable, and the batteries themselves are pre-charged before shipping using solar and wind energy. Single-use plastics are definitely on the can’t-miss list, which is why the packaging is made entirely from 95% recycled cardboard, which is fully recyclable once the batteries are removed. And if you want more greenery, Itson is involved in projects such as community gardens, which aim to transform urban spaces while reducing pollution and promoting biodiversity.

Another thing I’ve discovered recently is that many batteries from companies such as EBL, HiQuick AND Power owl they work perfectly with the fairly fast chargers they often come with. However, if I try to charge them with a super fast charger, they become too hot to handle, so I don’t feel comfortable taking that risk. No problem with Itson batteries, which I find keep cool even with the fastest chargers on the market, significantly speeding up the charging process until they’re ready to use again.

As I mentioned, one of my main pet peeves with old NiMH batteries is that they drained so quickly when sitting on a shelf waiting to be used. Again, no such problem with these Itson batteries, which retain 85% of their full charge even when not in use throughout the year. The total number of claimed charging cycles is rather modest at 150, which looks quite poor compared to the claimed 2,100 cycles of some NiMH batteries. I cannot test the comparison within the time constraints of writing a review, but still, Naturally, I am not able to compare different batteries in this respect within the time constraints of writing a review. Still, Itson batteries beat the claimed total of 100 competitive charge cycles Duracell batteries by 50%. Suffice it to say, if I had to charge these Itson batteries once every two weeks, they would still last for almost six years.

I inserted four freshly charged HisRecharge Pro AA batteries into my device Nikon SB-700 flash flash to test them in a typical photography scenario by firing a series of flashes at full power. I took a series of 100 photos, stopping after each one to let the flash and batteries cool down a bit. I found that the charging speed started at a super-fast 1.6 seconds until the flash ready light came on. This is actually the fastest speed I’ve ever gotten from NiMH batteries in this flash, and twice as fast as a brand new set of alkaline cells.

The recycling speed dropped to 1.9 seconds after 75 flashes and 2 seconds after 100 flashes, still faster than the starting speed of many freshly charged NiMH batteries. For further comparison, alkaline batteries dropped to a rate of 9.2 seconds after 75 flashes and 13 seconds after 100 flashes, completely discharged after 117 flashes. The Itson batteries lasted up to 320 full-power flashes, even outperforming many of the higher-power 2800 mAh batteries I tested, which tended to die after about 290 flashes.

NiMH batteries only deliver 1.2V compared to 1.5V of fresh alkaline batteries. I am immediately a fan of the ItsonitsRecharge Pro AA and AAA batteries. I like that they have top-notch eco-certifications and are fully charged, so they’re ready to use right out of the box (cardboard, not plastic). When testing AA batteries with flash, which is an obvious use for photography, they outperformed any other NiMH batteries I’ve ever used, and I’ve used a lot of them. I was equally impressed with the performance and durability of the HisRecharge Pro AAA batteries. I also like that I can charge both sizes of batteries in the super fast charger without it getting hot or causing any problems. I could buy cheaper batteries, but all things considered, I’m more than happy to pay the extra.
