Fireworks Safety and Regulations in Kansas | KSNF/KODE

PITTSBURG, Kansas — As many people prepare for Independence Day by setting off fireworks — officials say it’s important to stay safe and follow the law.

Pittsburgh Fire Chief Taylor Cerne suggests that individuals check with their local jurisdictions for laws governing when and where fireworks can be set off.

It also suggests that safety should remain a priority for those who plan to set off fireworks. What if Down you plan to shoot fireworks, Jakes Fireworks manager Joey Cronister advises having an adult supervise and make sure there are no trees or power lines where you light them.

“Bottle rockets and rocket launchers are not allowed. Just because they fly long distances and they have the explosive power to start a fire, whether it’s in a field or a house or something like that – so you can’t use bottle rockets in Kansas,” Chief Cerne said.

“If you’re shooting in a grassy area, I always put down a piece of plywood or something to put the larger fireworks on, and I always block them with cinder blocks, bricks or something like that so they don’t fall over,” said Joey Cronister, manager of Jakes Fireworks.

It is suggested to soak used fireworks in water overnight and place them in a metal garbage can.
