Governor Walz signs clean energy legislation at Dexter Farm – ABC 6 News

Governor Tim Walz pledges to source 100% of energy from clean energy by 2040.

(ABC 6 News) – On Thursday, Gov. Tim Walz signed a new clean energy law on the farm in Dexter, Minnesota.

Walz said he is committed to having 100% clean electricity in Minnesota by 2040, and the signing of the agreement was just a step toward achieving that goal.

Currently, 54% of the state’s energy comes from renewable sources, which is higher than the national average of 41%.

“We believe we can achieve additional certainty. We can achieve our goals more quickly. We can act more quickly to get much-needed transmission infrastructure that will unleash renewable energy across our region,” said Ryan Long, president of Xcel in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
