Report: The error allows you to unlock selected T-Mobile devices

T-Mobile customers recently discovered a bug that allows them to unlock Samsung and Pixel devices. Reddit users have discovered that they can now unlock their devices. This is different than T-Mobile’s policy where you must wait at least 40 days before unlocking your device. As a result, they must be tied to the operator for this period.

But apparently, a glitch now allows T-Mobile users to unlock Samsung and Pixel devices. The models people have been trying to unlock include:

  • Pixel 7
  • Samsung Galaxy Flip2
  • Samsung Galaxy S23
  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 Plus
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5

If you want to check if your new device can be unlocked, you can go to Settings > Connections > More connection settings > Network unlock > request temporary unlock. After waiting, tap Permanent unlock on your Samsung device. If you are using a Pixel device, you can download the T-Mobile Device Unlock app to do this.

T-Mobile has not issued a statement on the matter, but it is important to note that these devices are covered by T-Mo’s Equipment Installment Plans (EIP). You need to be careful when unlocking your device ahead of time.
