Hi-MO 9 debuts at the African Energy Forum 2024 in Barcelona

The 2024 African Energy Forum (AEF) took place with a bang in Barcelona on June 25-28 in Barcelona, Spain, bringing together energy experts, policymakers and industry leaders from around the world. As the premier annual event in the African energy investment sector, the forum provided a platform for in-depth discussions on how to balance Africa’s development needs with global goals in the future energy system. Under the leadership of Vice President She Haifeng, the LONGi team presented the latest high-efficiency photovoltaic product Hi-MO 9, based on 2and generation of Passive Back Contact Hybrid Solar Cell (HPBC) technology. This marks the debut of Hi-MO 9 in the African market.

LONGi’s BC technology and product range were the stars of the show, highlighting the company’s strong innovation capabilities and deep technical expertise in BC technology. Currently, the theoretical maximum efficiency of crystalline silicon solar cells is 29.43%. LONGi’s independently developed backside heterojunction (HBC) silicon solar cell achieved a world record of 27.3% photoelectric conversion efficiency. The latest Hi-MO 9 module, based on the high-efficiency HPBC 2.0 cell technology, applied to large-scale ground-mounted power plants achieves conversion efficiency of up to 24.43%. With the same area, the full life-cycle power generation benefits are 6.5-8% higher compared to conventional N-type products, further reducing the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for solar power generation and improving the overall system efficiency and stability. For diverse scenarios in Africa, such as water surfaces, grasslands and deserts, the high efficiency of Hi-MO 9 will significantly improve the economic efficiency of solar power generation, making clean electricity more competitive.

At the forum, LONGi also presented the Hi-MO X6 product for commercial and residential rooftops, equipped with Tairay Wafer and HPBC high-performance battery technology, becoming the best choice for distributed users. In addition, the forum also showcased Hi-MO 7 modules based on TOP-Con technology, ALK Hi1 and 3000 Nm3/h alkaline electrolyzer products, creating the best product combination of “Green Power + Green Hydrogen”, which attracted a large number of visitors.

LONGi is constantly breaking through technological innovation, focusing on continuously reducing LCOE and creating greater value for customers. LONGi has established the world’s first “Lantern Factory” in the photovoltaic industry, further reducing costs and increasing efficiency through digital intelligent production, leading the implementation of BC technology in all scenarios, and ensuring 30 years of stable power generation for power plants.

In this forum, LONGi actively participated in the discussions. In the forum “Promoting Renewable Energy Projects and Strengthening Sustainable Value Chains”, James Jin, President of LONGi Middle East and Africa, stated that all technological innovations are aimed at effectively applying renewable energy products and technologies and supporting the energy transformation. Africa not only has abundant resources of oil, gas, coal and hydropower, but also abundant sunlight. As the cost of photovoltaic energy continues to decline with innovation, the development of solar energy in Africa can not only solve energy equity issues, but also produce clean and cheap green electricity to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia, meeting the needs of the surrounding regions. LONGi believes that “Green Energy + Green Hydrogen” represents the future of Africa’s energy landscape, balancing Africa’s needs with global goals.

Africa’s unique ecological environment also makes energy sustainability a central point of discussion. James Jin stressed that Africa’s energy development should address carbon transfer, helping the continent’s energy-intensive industries reduce carbon emissions, and advocated promoting the concept of “solar for all” in Africa by harnessing “green energy” to producing “ecological products” with the dual goals of developing the energy economy and protecting the primary natural environment of the African continent.

The future of Africa’s energy landscape has become a global focal point. LONGi’s product management, product planning, leadership and business teams have deeply engaged in the market, not only introducing the latest BC technologies and products, as well as the “Green Power + Green Hydrogen” system solutions to the African market, gaining significant attention from experts and leaders in various fields, but also demonstrating LONGi’s focus and confidence in the African market. LONGi strongly believes that the application and rapid popularization of BC technology will provide strong support for Africa’s sustainable development and energy future. LONGi will work closely with all parties in the African energy sector to contribute to Africa’s future energy landscape and development.
