EU antitrust regulators to assess impact of UK Microsoft Activision remedy

BRUSSELS, Aug 22 (Reuters) – European Union antitrust regulators will investigate whether Microsoft’s proposal to sell cloud streaming rights outside the EU to Ubisoft Entertainment in a bid to win British approval for Activision Blizzard’s bid will affect Microsoft’s concessions to the European Commission.

“We are closely following developments in the UK and assessing the impact this may have on the commitments made by the Commission,” an executive spokesman for the European Union said in an email.

The European competition authority approved the deal in May after Microsoft agreed to license popular Activision games such as “Call of Duty” to rival streaming platforms for 10 years.
