Press release:

Press release from Vestas Northern and Central Europe, LEAG and EP Corporate Group
Hamburg, 28 June 2024

Vestas and LEAG have reached an agreement to order 105 MW for the “Forst-Briesnig II” wind energy project in the Lusatia region of Germany. Vestas will supply 17 V162-6.2 MW wind turbines and the order covers the supply, delivery and commissioning of the turbines. Once completed, the turbines will be serviced by Vestas under a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service contract to ensure optimal performance and durability of the facilities.

The wind project, which is being built on the site of a former lignite mine, is the first LEAG project. It was developed by LEAG Renewables GmbH, a subsidiary of LEAG that specializes in developing and implementing renewable energy projects. The project is a milestone in the transformation of the facility into a renewable industrial and energy landscape in the Lusatia region and is part of a larger energy transformation project – the GigawattFactory.

“We are delighted to have reached such a significant agreement with one of the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturers,” says Dominique Guillou, CEO of LEAG Renewables GmbH. “Securing what is historically the second largest construction permit for an onshore wind farm in Germany and now finalizing this contract are key milestones for the successful implementation of the Forst-Briesnig II wind farm.”

“Forst Briesnig 2 is a lighthouse project on land, and thanks to its location on the site of a former mine, it is an excellent example of the transformation of the German energy system from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources,” says Jens Kück, Senior Vice President of Onshore Sales at Vestas for Northern and Central Europe. “We are excited to support LEAG on their transformation journey and be involved in this significant project as it demonstrates our strong ability to provide the right solutions for technically complex projects.”

“The partnership with Vestas on our first wind project is another key step towards the realization of our GigawattFactory. With the strength of LEAG Renewables as our new renewable energy competence center, together with experienced partners such as Vestas, LEAG will build one of the largest onshore renewable energy networks in Germany, establishing the Lusatia region as a pioneer in the energy transition in Europe,” says Thorsten Kramer, CEO of LEAG.

“We are proud to invest in this transformative project, which represents another significant step forward in our commitment to renewable energy and sustainable power generation.” says Tomáš David, Senior Director responsible for renewable energy at EP Corporate Group, majority shareholder of EP Energy Transition, majority owner of LEAG. TThis project is a key element of our broader strategy to transition from conventional to sustainable energy production, which puts us at the forefront of the energy transition in Germany.”

Deliveries of the turbines will begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, with commissioning scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
