European regulatory update: EU and UK Defra rules to block deforestation

This article outlines some of the key actions and requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation. The UK’s intentions for forest risk goods through Defra were discussed.

One of the actions under the EGD is the introduction of the EU Deforestation-Free Products Regulation. The regulation aims to establish mandatory due diligence for companies placing certain goods that pose a risk to forests on the EU market. Commodities covered include, but are not limited to, cocoa, coffee, palm oil and soybeans.
