NFL must pay subscribers $4.7 billion in ‘Sunday Ticket’ antitrust lawsuit.

Verónica Silveri Pazos

A federal jury in California ruled that NFL must pay $4.7 billion for the benefit of a group of plaintiffs as a result of antitrust proceedings against the league for its “out-of-market” broadcasts.

The payment was made as compensation compensation for consumers (especially those who pay for the league)Sunday ticket“broadcast packet). ABOUT $4.6 billion will go to consumer subscribers and just under $100 million to commercial users.

NFL responds

The NFL said in a statement that it plans to appeal the ruling. It also noted that its media distribution strategy was “by far the most fan-friendly distribution model across all of sports and entertainment.”

We will certainly question this decision because we believe the claims made in this class action lawsuit are meritless and without merit.”

The ruling poses a threat to the league, whose media deals make up the majority of its revenue. The league generates over $20 billion annually.

The case pits the NFL against its fans

The case was a confrontation between the NFL and its fans. The plaintiffs argued that the manner in which media rights were sold was such that ““Sunday Ticket” the package is there anti-competitive because it forces users to pay hundreds of dollars for a package that also includes games they don’t want and that may be more than fairly priced.
