BALTIMORE, MD – The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is seeking public comment on a proposed policy aimed at improving literacy outcomes for all students.

The policy, which is still in the draft phase, will provide a framework for literacy standards and practices in the state. MSDE wants to hear from educators, families and community members about their ideas and feedback on the current proposal.

“This initiative aims to advance evidence-based literacy standards and practices across the state, ensuring every student has a solid foundation in literacy,” said Dr. Carey M. Wright, state superintendent of schools. “Feedback from educators, families, and community members is essential in shaping this policy to best meet the needs of our students.”

The public can review the draft policy and submit suggestions through an online survey through July 19. The policy will also be discussed at a State Education Board meeting on July 23.
