Chennai-based entrepreneur Krithika Sivaswamy slams Maharashtra government’s decision to waive electricity bills for farmers

Krithika Sivaswamy, an entrepreneur from Chennai, recently shared a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, sparking a discussion among netizens on the daily struggles faced by the labour sectors in India.

Her posts highlight the challenges faced by workers who must navigate crumbling urban infrastructure, endure long hours, and cope with constant pressure to perform.

In her post, X also noted that these workers often suffer from deteriorating physical and mental health, all in an effort to earn a living.

Her post read: “The biggest idiots in this country are the workers who have to trudge through crumbling urban infrastructure (regardless of the city), in all weathers, work hard, put in extra hours, be under pressure to do their jobs, suffer health problems and mental stress – just to feed it all.”

Commentary on the latest budget announcement of Maharashtra

Sivaswami’s post is in response to the recent announcement by the Maharashtra government to waive electricity bills for 4.4 million farmers. This move is aimed at relieving the burden on the agricultural sector.

While many people welcomed the decision, Sivaswami’s reaction suggests a different point of view.

In her post, she expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s priorities, suggesting that the problems of the labor sector were being ignored.

Internet users’ reaction

Reaction to Sivaswamy’s posts was mixed, with some users praising her for highlighting the challenges facing the workforce, while others criticized her for undermining the importance of supporting farmers.

One user Farmers who commit suicide due to poverty receive no compensation from governments, while a person who dies after drinking illicit alcohol receives a handsome amount.”

Another user wrote: “I’m not a fan of freebies, but I help farmers keep food prices low so we can eat without burning a hole in our budget. This is an invisible freebie for us.”

“Since their votes count, let’s give them seats. Our votes and places don’t count,” wrote another user X.

“Oh please… if you start criticizing such actions of the BJP, what will people like us do?” – added another user.
