Oman Air appoints Mike Duggan as new cargo chief

Mike Duggan

Oman Air has appointed a new cargo chief as it begins restructuring and realigning its fleet.

Mike Duggan has joined the carrier to lead its cargo operations, Loadstar he learned after his visit this week to Air Cargo China in Shanghai on behalf of the carrier.

Mr. Duggan has a long career in the shipping industry and airlines, including: Emirates, HAE, Southern Air, Transmile and Saudia Cargo.

Its arrival coincides with changes in the fleet and the reorganization of the carrier. Oman Air has withdrawn its A330s from service, according to CH Aviation. It also operates eight 787s and 23 737s, one of which is a cargo aircraft.

After losses, the Omani government decided last year to restructure the carrier as debts began to mount. The overhaul covers the fleet, network, schedules and workforce, with several routes being cut, including Chittagong and Colombo.

Mr. Duggan should have appropriate experience in wholesale cargo inspection. During the pandemic, he was tasked with transforming Eastern Airlines into a cargo carrier by partially converting 777 planes, but as the market declined, Eastern’s management enthusiasm for cargo transport waned.

Duggan and Oman Air were unavailable for comment.
