Largest solar installation at Washington, Georgia airport underway – General Aviation News

ARLINGTON, Wash. – Arlington International Airport (KAWO) has partnered with Veregy to build a solar array at the airport.

The $668,000 project will feature 87.5 kW DC of solar panels that will be installed by combining solar-powered carports and solar panels on the roofs of the airport terminal building. Airport officials say it will be the largest general aviation photovoltaic array in the state.

The photovoltaic installation is expected to “significantly offset the airport’s annual electricity consumption, providing savings in the face of rising utility costs by generating nearly 145,000 kWh of renewable energy annually,” airport officials added.

“We are very excited to be bringing this project to life with Veregy,” said Marty Wray, Arlington Municipal Airport Director. “The savings over time will be extraordinary for the airport, our tenants and users, and the city.”

“Veregy is excited to partner with AWO Airport to deliver the largest solar installation for a general aviation airport in Washington State,” said Corey Harper, Veregy’s chief customer officer.

The airport received a $250,000 grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation for the project. According to airport officials, the aircraft carrier will also achieve at least 30% savings on the project through tax credits for energy investments.

The project is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 2,500 metric tons, “which not only represents a significant economic benefit to the airport but also a significant environmental impact,” airport officials said.
