Government seeking to ensure self-sufficiency in grain: Prime Minister Dahal «Khabarhub

CHITWAN: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said the government is actively working to make Nepal self-sufficient in rice and other food grains.

Addressing the 21st National Rice Day and Ropai Jatra organized by Bharatpur Metropolitan City in Chitwan today, Prime Minister Dahal highlighted the government’s commitment under the Decade of Agriculture program.

This initiative, enshrined in government policies, programmes and budget, aims to reduce production costs and increase productivity.

The Prime Minister stressed that achieving self-sufficiency in rice is possible by ensuring efficient and easy access to irrigation, seeds and fertilizers, as well as adopting mechanization.

Stressing that rice is a strategic crop for the country, he appealed to all three tiers of government to ensure effective implementation of the policy.

Prime Minister Dahal also expressed his belief in agriculture as a path to prosperity, stressing the importance of engaging in agricultural trade and promoting the country’s economic sector.

Similarly, Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jammakattel said the provincial government has initiated a programme to provide subsidies to milk producers, promote agriculture and create employment opportunities.

Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolis, Renu Dahal, informed that work is underway to provide year-round irrigation to all fertile lands in Chitwan. She added that efforts are being made to make Chitwan self-sufficient in food grains.
