Gurugram police spokesman Sandeep Kumar said over eight shots were fired, four of which hit Singh, who collapsed on the spot. “Singh was returning home and stopped to drink fruit juice after a workout at the gym around 9 p.m. when two men wearing T-shirts of a food delivery platform fired at him. Both the suspects later fled from the market in Ullawas village,” Kumar said.

According to police, locals took the injured man to a private hospital in Sector 56, but he died on the way due to his injuries.

After receiving information about the incident, teams from Sector 65 police station and the crime branch rushed to the spot. Shopkeepers informed them that the injured man had been shifted to a private hospital in Sector 56.

Investigators said a police team reached the hospital and found that Singh had succumbed to his injuries. His father filed a written complaint about the incident. He said that on the evening of June 28, his son was going home to Kadarpur from HBR Chowk in Ullawas village. “Anuj was sitting in his car drinking juice when two young men on a bike hit his SUV from behind. When he got out of the vehicle, the men shot at him. My son tried to escape but the attackers chased him and shot at him again,” said Ranbeer Singh, the victim’s father.

Kumar said the deceased man had a criminal past and had previous convictions for three cases, including two cases of extortion, which were registered at the police station in Sectors 65 and 56. Police said he had also been booked for assault last year. Previously, he worked as a goalkeeper in a club in Gurugram.

Police said the murder may be the result of a business rivalry or related to the Sohna murder case involving his jailed cousin.

A case under section 65 was registered at the Sector 65 police station on Friday evening. 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code against the two suspects.
