Investigators identified the deceased as Anuj Singh, a resident of Kadarpur village in Sector 63.

Gurugram police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar said that more than eight rounds were fired, four of which hit Singh, causing him to collapse on the spot. “Singh was returning home and around 9 pm after a gym session, he stopped to have some fruit juice when two men in T-shirts from a food delivery platform fired at him. The two suspects later fled from the market in Ullawas village,” Kumar said.

According to police, locals took the injured man to a private hospital in Sector 56, but he died on the way due to his injuries.

After receiving information about the incident, teams from Sector 65 police station and crime branch rushed to the spot. The shopkeepers informed them that the injured man was shifted to a private hospital in Sector 56.

Investigators said a police team reached the hospital and found that Singh had succumbed to his injuries. His father had filed a written complaint about the incident. He said that on the evening of June 28, his son was driving home to Kadarpur from HBR Chowk in Ullawas village. “Anuj was sitting in his car, drinking juice, when two youths on a bike hit his SUV from behind. When he got out of the vehicle, the men shot at him. My son tried to escape, but the assailants chased him and shot at him again,” said Ranbeer Singh, the victim’s father.

Kumar said the deceased man had a criminal past and was earlier arrested in three cases, including two cases of extortion, which were registered at police stations in Sector 65 and 56. He was also arrested for assault last year, police said. He previously worked as a security guard at a club in Gurugram.

Police said the murder could be a result of business rivalry or may be linked to the Sohna murder case, in which his cousin, who is in jail, is involved.

A case under section 65 was registered at the Sector 65 police station on Friday evening. 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code against the two suspects.
