Cape Hatteras National Seashore reminds visitors of local fireworks regulations; Two permitted fireworks shows to take place on southern Outer Banks

Visitors to Cape Hatteras National Seashore should leave their fireworks at home and attend permitted fireworks shows on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) reminds visitors and nearby homeowners that the discharge or possession of fireworks is illegal on all land managed by the National Park Service, including all beaches from the southern boundary of Nags Head down to Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.

In addition to being illegal and posing a significant fire risk to local communities, their personal use can be a significant nuisance to people, pets and wildlife.

Coastal law enforcement officers will be patrolling beaches throughout the upcoming Fourth of July holiday week.

Tourists can head to Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands to view the only two permitted fireworks shows on the coast.

Fireworks displays allowed

  • 21:15 Tuesday, July 2 on the southern tip of Ocracoke Island
  • 9:00 PM on Thursday, July 4th at Avon Fishing Pier
