Google’s Gemini AI app is getting a wider launch. Is your phone on the list?

Now, more people can use and enjoy the Google Gemini AI app on their smartphones, as the company has expanded the list of regions where the Android version of the app is available through the Google Play Store. Specifically, it has launched the Android app in the UK and Europe, opening up the service far beyond its launch in the US, where it was released in February.

What’s more, Google says Gemini will soon be available for iPhone owners, as the AI chatbot is coming to iOS in the next few weeks. It won’t be a standalone app, though, as Gemini will work through Google’s official app, which is available to download now on the Apple App Store.

A quote attributed to the Google product manager responsible for Gemini gives a hint of what you can do with Gemini on your phone:

“With the Gemini app you can write, chat or add images to get all kinds of help: you can take a photo of a flat tire and ask for instructions on how to replace it, or get help writing a thank you note. This is an important first step in building a true AI assistant – one that can talk, is multimodal and helpful.”

Is your phone on the list?

Before you rush out to download the Gemini app from Google, also prepare to be disappointed as it is currently not compatible with every Android phone. In the UK, at the time of writing, it works on phones including the Google Pixel 8 series, Google Pixel 7 series, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Nothing Phone 2 and Nothing Phone 2a. However, it does not currently install on Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, Motorola Razr (2023) or Google Pixel Tablet.

This list may be updated in the future and may vary by region, but if you don’t see the app listed in the Google Play Store on your phone, please check the store via Chrome to see if your phone is supported at this time to confirm. If you can download the Google Gemini app on your phone, you will be prompted to switch from Google Assistant to Google Gemini as both do not work at the same time.
