FKA twigs calls for more regulation of artificial intelligence as it creates its own fake content

FKA twigs appeared before Congress to testify on the dangers of unregulated artificial intelligence (AI), then revealed that she created a fake version of herself to communicate with fans.

A British singer has warned that artificial intelligence could copy her music and “falsely claim” her identity and intellectual property, but said she was not against using the technology.

The artist revealed that she created the AI version to “increase my reach and handle my online social media interactions while I continue to focus on my art in the comfort of my studio.”

However, she explained that the tool is under her control and the AI becomes “unacceptable” when a third party can use the identity for their own benefit, without consent, due to the lack of “adequate statutory controls”.

The Cellophane singer urged the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property to “introduce regulations now to protect our authenticity” as she testified alongside Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncle.

Earlier this week, The Standard newspaper reported that a leading London school was introducing artificial intelligence lessons for children from the age of four to help them cope with emerging technology.

Alleyn’s School in Dulwich, which generates £26,000 a year, will launch its ‘AiQ’ course in September.
