The head of the EU’s antitrust authority will make a statement at 2:00 p.m. ET

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager will make a statement around noon (2 p.m. EST) on Wednesday after the weekly meeting of the EU’s executive bodies, the European Commission said.

It is expected to accuse Google Inc of abusing its dominant position in internet search engines after five years of dealing with complaints from competitors.

The Re/code blog cited an internal memo from the U.S. tech giant that said the Commission would issue a list of objections, called a Statement of Objections, that would focus on the search rankings of shopping sites. An investigation into the Android mobile platform would also begin.

Google and the Commission declined to comment.
