Prime Minister Dahal – Radio Nepal




Kathmandu, June 29: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the government is taking steps to make the country self-sufficient in the supply of rice and food grains.
Speaking on the occasion of the 21st National Rice Day and Ropai Jatra organized by Bharatpur Metropolitan City in Chitwan, Prime Minister Dahal recalled that the government had announced the Decade of Agriculture program in its policies, programs and budget, which aims to reduce production costs and increase productivity.
He mentioned that the country could become self-sufficient in paddy fields by providing smooth and easy irrigation facilities, seeds and fertilizers and adopting mechanization. Asserting that rice cultivation is a strategic crop of the country, the prime minister called on the three-tiered governments to successfully implement the government’s policies.
Dahal expressed confidence that the country can become prosperous through agriculture, emphasizing the need to engage in agricultural trade and promote the country’s economic sector.
Similarly, Bagmati Provincial Chief Minister Shalikram Jammakattel said the provincial government has released a program aimed at providing subsidy to dairy farmers, promoting agriculture and creating jobs.
Bharatpur metropolitan mayor Renu Dahal said arrangements would be made to provide irrigation facilities to all fertile areas of Chitwan throughout the year. She added that she was actively working to make Chitwan self-sufficient in foodgrains.
