Srinagar- Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday delivered the keynote address at a national seminar on “Role of Academic-Based Startups in Emerging Economy of J&K UT (RASE 2024)” held at NIT Srinagar.

In his keynote speech, LGr praised the initiative to create an environment that will inspire, motivate and connect academia with industry, as well as mentor students who will lead the startup ecosystem.
“I believe that startups are a powerful instrument to bridge the gap between universities and industry. Startups have also been able to achieve two important goals – generating employment and generating profits,” LG said.

LG motivated students to set action-oriented goals to turn their entrepreneurial dream into reality and contribute to the country’s socio-economic transformation and economic growth.

“My message to the upcoming start-up entrepreneurs is to focus on ‘problem first’ and not ‘product first’ so that your ideas can accelerate the Viksit Bharat process and also stimulate the entrepreneurial spirit among young students,” the LG said.

The LG also highlighted the potential of academic start-ups to transform the economy of J&K by fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in educational institutions. In this context, he highlighted key initiatives of the UT administration such as the J&K Startup Policy and the potential of the Holistic Agricultural Development Program (HADP) to transform the startup and entrepreneurship ecosystem in the UT, especially in rural areas.

There are huge opportunities for startups in tourism, healthcare, logistics, handloom, handicrafts, horticulture, agriculture and related sectors. Under the leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi, we are committed to providing necessary support and guidance to young entrepreneurs in both technology and non-technology sectors, he said.

He said the national level seminar will encourage universities/colleges to invest in the future and develop talent for impactful innovation.

LG also emphasized the need to provide future entrepreneurs with high-quality technical and vocational education and training.

Two other important goals of startups are the development and transfer of new technologies for social transformation and the creation of a huge talent pool in line with the needs of the industry, LG noted.

He called for greater collaboration between academia, industry and policy makers to create a vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.

The two-day national seminar is being organised by National Institute of Technology Srinagar in collaboration with Department of Holistic Education, Central University of Kashmir, ICAR CITH, Department of Science and Technology and SKUAST-Kashmir.

Also present were Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, Director, NIT Srinagar and Vice-Chancellor, Central University Kashmir; Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, Technology Development Board; Dr. Parikshat Singh Manhas, Chairman, JKBOSE; Dr. Thakur SKR, eminent scientist; experts, intellectuals, researchers, heads of departments and entrepreneurs.
