Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation: Gujarat to invest Rs 1 lakh crore in building transmission infrastructure | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (Getco) intends to invest Rs 1 lakh crore over the next eight to 10 years to build additional transmission infrastructure in Gujarat. The decision was made to channel the state’s growing renewable energy capacity into supply. Currently, Gujarat has 11,823 megawatts (MW) of wind power generation capacity in addition to 13,545 MW of solar power generation capacity, for a total of about 25,368 MW of installed capacity for renewable energy alone, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. “The idea behind making large investments in transmission infrastructure is to complement existing power generation infrastructure to meet the growing power demand in the state. Currently, the state is spending an average of Rs 4,000 crore on capital expenditure for infrastructure development. As part of the 10-year investment plan, we will add 1,000 new substations, of which around 850 will be 66 kV, around 150 will be EHV 200 kV, 400 kV and 765 kV,” explained Upendra Pande, Managing Director, Getco. There are four main areas of current capital expenditure: daily power supply to the agricultural sector by 2027, increased utilization of total transmission capacity (TTC)/available transmission capacity (TTC), expected integration of renewable energy by 100 GW by 2030, and demand from distribution utilities by 2030 r. “Implementation of Kisan Suryoday Yojana to meet agricultural supply will increase the peak demand in agriculture from the current 8 GW to 14 GW,” a government source said on the development.
