Mangaluru City Corporation: Mangaluru City Corporation approves land acquisition on TDR basis for MSCL’s Riverfront Project | Mangaluru News

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) council on Saturday approved a proposal to acquire land on transferable development rights (TDR) basis for a riverfront project being developed by Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL). Under the riverfront project, a proposal to construct a bridge from Sulthan Bathery to Tannirbhavi by MSCL has been approved. Based on the request of MSCL, MCC has decided to acquire the required land from private individuals at Boloor near Sulthan Bathery. In exchange for the land, the owners will be given TDR as per the provisions of the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, the council decided. The council has shelved the plan to acquire 9.2 acres on TDR basis at Marakada to provide housing to the poor and backward classes. Similarly, another scheme to acquire 3.4 acres to provide housing to the poor and backward classes in Padavu has been postponed. Meanwhile, several other schemes proposing acquisition of land on TDR basis for construction of roads and underground drainage have been forwarded to the standing committee of town planning for a report. Regarding the Jalasiri project, opposition corporatist A.C. Vinayraj of the Congress said that though the Jalasiri project was supposed to provide round-the-clock water supply to the city, it has not been completed even after five years. Water meters purchased five years ago have not been installed and distribution lines have not been completed. Chief Minister Premananda Shetty said the mayor should convene a separate meeting to discuss the work in Jalasiri. Mayor Sudheer Shetty of Kannur announced that the corporations would be given Rs 1 crore each for undertaking development works. He asked the corporations to submit estimates for works worth Rs 50 lakh.
