Apple is reportedly investigating new technology that will simplify the iPhone battery replacement process

The report shows that Apple is exploring the possibility of using new technology that will make the battery replacement process easier in future iPhone models. The Cupertino-based company has previously been rumored to be reworking its battery case design, which could be used as part of the company’s efforts to simplify the process of disconnecting the battery from an iPhone. Apple has not yet announced any plans to increase the replaceability of iPhone batteries, which may be due to upcoming EU regulations that will require the use of replaceable batteries in electronic devices.

The Information reports (via 9to5Mac) that Apple is working on a new method for replacing iPhone batteries. According to the report, which cites people familiar with the company’s plans, the “electrically induced adhesive removal” technology will allow users to remove the battery from inside the iPhone by “applying a small electrical shock to the battery.”

Apple’s current iPhone models feature foil-covered batteries held in place by adhesive strips, meaning users must use tweezers to pull the device out of the handset housing. It’s not a user-friendly process — more information on the subject can be found on Apple’s support site .

According to the report, the company could encase future iPhone batteries in metal instead of foil, which would allow the new technology to “pull out” the battery and replace it. While this may be easier than trying to pull the battery out of the phone, the company will reportedly continue to advise users not to attempt the repair themselves.

The publication reported that Apple intends to equip one model in the iPhone 16 series of smartphones this year with batteries that will be easier to replace, and the technology could be available in all models from next year. Last year, a photo of an alleged iPhone 16 Pro battery with a metal casing leaked online.

Given Apple’s tendency to keep hardware changes and improvements under wraps until it unveils its devices, we can expect to learn more about this technology – if it exists – in the coming months when the iPhone 16 series is unveiled.
