ADB uses the ACEN unit to achieve 100% renewable energy

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed an agreement with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), part of the Ayala Group, under which its headquarters in Mandaluyong city will be powered by 100% renewable energy.

ACEN said in a statement that under the agreement, its electricity retail arm will power ADB facilities with renewable energy from its portfolio of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind.

This action is in line with the development bank’s efforts to promote sustainable development and environmental responsibility.

“We at ACEN are excited to expand our cooperation with the Asian Development Bank. ADB has played a key role in driving the growth of our renewable energy portfolio in the Philippines and across the region through sustainable financing,” said ACEN President and CEO Eric Francia.

ADB Vice President for Administration and Corporate Governance Bruce Gosper said ADB, as the Asia-Pacific climate bank, is committed to reducing its carbon footprint.

“This includes sourcing electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy,” Gosper said.

ADB Chief Executive Officer for Corporate Services Lakshmi Menon said that despite the size of the bank’s headquarters, it managed to use less energy than other buildings of similar size and occupancy.

“As part of our sustainability efforts, we have continued to obtain electricity from renewable sources since 2014. We have also done everything we can to use less water and paper while producing less waste,” Menon said.

ACEN RES has awarded the development bank the “Powered by Renewable Energy” seal in recognition of ADB’s commitment to renewable energy. This badge is typically awarded to ACEN RES customers who choose a 100% renewable energy supply. Alena Mae S. Flores

ACEN is the Ayala Group’s publicly traded energy platform with a rapidly growing presence in the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the United States.

It has approximately 4.8 gigawatts of renewable capacity in operation and under construction.
