The commissioner promises to reposition the mining sector in Imo

Imo State Commissioner for Industry, Mining and Mineral Resources, Barr Ernest Ibejiako, has promised to restore sanity and address the challenges facing the mining sector in the state.

The Commissioner made this commitment during the first stakeholder meeting with miners in Imo State.

Barr Ibejiako expressed his willingness to achieve significant milestones during his tenure and reaffirmed the role of the Federal and State Governments in addressing the challenges facing the sector.

He identified the need for cooperation between stakeholders, compliance with mining rules and regulations, relocation of miners to safer ecological zones and assessment of revenue collection as key areas of concern.

The Commissioner also stressed the need to limit the spread of mining routes, which degrades ecology and the environment. He assured miners and stakeholders of the ministry’s support and assistance, encouraging them to work with the ministry to achieve its goals.

The state chairman of the mining committee, Prince Ugochukwu Onyenwenwa, commended the commissioner for his commitment and pledged support to miners and stakeholders for efficient mining activities.

The interaction focused on the need for all stakeholders to identify key areas of concern and demonstrate commitment to work together to effectively reform the mining sector.
