The Las Vegas Raiders could face a nearly $450 million bill from the NFL

The Las Vegas Raiders could suffer significant financial losses as a result of the recent “Sunday Ticket” lawsuit against the NFL.

On Thursday, ESPN reported that a jury found that the NFL violated antitrust laws by selling a package of Sunday tickets “at an inflated price” on DirecTV.

According to the report: “The jury awarded the residential class $4.7 billion in damages and the commercial class $96 million. Because damages could be tripled under federal antitrust laws, the NFL could be ordered to pay $14.39 billion.”

That means the NFL, which would have to split that potential amount among all 32 of its teams, would have to bill each team $449.6 million. This, of course, applies to the Las Vegas Raiders.

“We are disappointed with today’s jury verdict in the NFL Sunday Ticket class action lawsuit. We continue to believe that our media distribution strategy, which includes all NFL games broadcast on free over-the-air television in participating team markets and national distribution of our most popular games, complemented by many additional options including RedZone, Sunday Ticket and NFL+, is by far the most fan-friendly model distribution across all sports and entertainment,” the NFL said in a statement.

“We will certainly challenge this decision as we believe that the class action claims in this case are baseless and without merit. We thank the jury for their time and service and for Judge (Philip) Gutierrez’s guidance and supervision throughout the trial.”

Post-trial motions will be heard on July 31.
