bp joins consortium to develop multi-phase green hydrogen project in Egypt, accelerating sustainable energy goals

bp has entered into a joint development agreement (JDA) to join an existing consortium including Masdar, Hassan Allam Utilities and Infinity Power. The consortium aims to explore the development of a multi-phase green hydrogen (gH2) project in Egypt.

As part of the JDA, Bishop will lead the project development and operation on behalf of the consortium as it consolidates its green hydrogen initiatives in Egypt. The partnership will explore the potential of a large-scale, multi-phase project focusing on the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives, particularly for export.

Framework Agreement with the Government of Egypt

The newly formed consortium has signed a Framework Agreement (FWA) with the Egyptian government. This agreement initiates a series of studies and activities to assess the technical and commercial feasibility of the project.

Importance and commitment

The signing ceremony, coinciding with bp’s 60th anniversary in Egypt, underlines the company’s long-standing commitment to the country. Nader Zaki, Bp’s Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa, highlighted the consortium’s role in supporting Egypt’s energy transformation plans and strengthening regional cooperation on energy projects.

Mohammad Abdelqader El Ramahi, Director of Green Hydrogen at Masdar, highlighted the consortium’s commitment to promoting the development of green hydrogen in Egypt and beyond, in line with Masdar and the UAE’s clean energy goals.
