KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said Malaysia is not at risk of losing control of its airports as a result of the 30% acquisition. shares by the foreign company Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), according to the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN).

He reiterated that Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Employees Provident Fund (EPF)’s stake in Malaysian Airports Berhad (MAHB) will increase from the current 41 percent to 70 percent, the news portal reported Malaysian reported.

“Earlier, Khazanah and EPF had 41 percent of the shares. However, after the transition, 70 percent of the shares will belong to Khazanah and EPF.

“The opposition claims that even with 30 percent, they (GIP) can take power. I don’t know how it counts,” he said this morning during his monthly meeting with staff of the Prime Minister’s Department in Putrajaya. .

Controversy over the acquisition of a stake in Malaysia’s largest airport operator began in May, after state-owned property company Khazanah revealed that a foreign consortium formed by the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and US investment firm GIP intended to acquire a stake in MAHB.

The opposition claimed the move would threaten Malaysia’s transport interests and national security after a merger was established between GIP and BlackRock, a company believed to be linked to the Zionist government of Israel.

Malaysia has no diplomatic relations with Israel and has declared solidarity with Palestine.
