Microsoft may soon introduce ‘Continue from Phone’ feature in Windows 11 : Tech : Tech Times

Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system could soon offer an innovative way to work on the go, as the tech giant is rumored to be developing a “Continue from Phone” feature.

Renowned Windows Insider researcher PhantomOfEarth initially spotted this nifty feature. The insider noted that nothing happened despite pressing “Continue from phone.” Other sources connected the phone using Phone Link and searched the Managed Devices section to identify hidden processes behind the button, but they also failed.

Fortunately, PhantomOfEarth found something in the function’s code that explained its purpose. According to the feature description, users can easily resume their work by accessing the same OneDrive file they were using on another device minutes before the computer was locked.

Microsoft can sync its PC and mobile devices via the Phone Link app. However, you can also leverage the power of OneDrive to track which device made the changes and sync everything back to your PC when they return. These sources suggest that the reported feature is related to Microsoft automatically enabling OneDrive all the time.

Rumors about Windows 11 mobility

This feature has been released at a time when speculation about Windows 11 features is focusing on mobility, including transferring files between mobile devices and Windows 11. According to the latest sources, it could soon be faster and easier as File Explorer may soon be available on phones.

In a later update, users will supposedly be able to force their devices to appear in File Explorer with the “Cross-Device Experience Host” feature, which was leaked by the same PhantomOfEarth on the X platform.

Microsoft is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to easily transfer files by connecting File Explorer to their mobile devices.

Sources say there is still no word on when the new feature will be released and whether it will make it through the development and beta branches before being added to the final release.

Windows 11 24H2

Windows 11 continues to receive a handful of new features, some more beneficial than others. Windows 11 24H2, which recently went into preview and now includes Wi-Fi 7, HDR backgrounds, voice clarity, and more, is the biggest update for 2024.

Wi-Fi 7 compatibility enables faster, more stable wireless connections, while HDR backgrounds improve image clarity. They more accurately display high-dynamic-range images, such as a sunny day, on the user’s screen.

Additionally, the update included “voice clarity,” an AI-enhanced version of noise reduction that allows apps to focus on the user’s voice while blocking out background noise. This function improves communication during calls and recordings.

Additionally, Windows now comes with a “superuser do” (sudo) command, mainly for developers. Like Unix-based systems, this command gives users greater command privileges and bypasses security.
