Hemas Holdings Strengthens Management to Drive Growth – Adaderana Biz English

Hemas Holdings PLC has announced the appointment of Ajith Fernando and Supun Weerasinghe as independent non-executive directors, with effect from 1saint July 2024. In addition, Ajith Fernando will be a member of the Nominations and Governance Committee of the Hemas Board. These strategic appointments underscore Hemas’ commitment to improving governance and leveraging its deep industry knowledge as the Group continues its growth trajectory.

Ajith Fernando is a seasoned veteran with over 35 years of experience in the financial sector, specializing in capital markets. He is widely known for his role in founding Capital Alliance Group, where he served as CEO until December 2023, driving the company’s expansion into Bangladesh and establishing it as a leading investment bank in Sri Lanka. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK) and holder of an MSc in Financial Economics from the University of Colombo, Ajith has extensive board experience, including Chairmanship of Sri Lanka Technology Campus (Pvt) Ltd. and Directorship of Ceylon Tea Brokers PLC and several private companies.

Supun Weerasinghe, currently the Executive Director and Group CEO of Dialog Axiata PLC, has over two decades of experience and expertise in the telecommunications sector. Since joining Dialog in 1999, he has held key roles including Chief Strategy Officer, General Manager Mobile Business and Group COO, before assuming his current position in 2017. His journey includes significant international exposure, including as Group Strategy Officer of Axiata Group Berhad in Malaysia and CEO/Managing Director of Robi Axiata Limited in Bangladesh from 2014 to 2016. His leadership also includes board positions with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and UNGC Network in Sri Lanka. He is a Certified Management Accountant (Sri Lanka) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK), holds an MBA from the University of Western Sydney, Australia and is a graduate of Harvard Business School.

These additions to the current Hemas Holdings board underscore the company’s continued focus on excellence in corporate governance and strategic leadership. As Hemas expands its presence locally and globally in the key sectors of consumer brands, healthcare and mobility, these appointments are poised to drive sustained value creation for shareholders and stakeholders.

Hemas also announced the retirement of independent non-executive director Jyotindra Trivedi. He joined the Hemas board in 2017 and has made significant contributions to the company’s growth over the years.
