Shein is looking for Turkish suppliers after criticism of its supply chain

She in plans to source clothes for its European market from Turkey in an attempt to limit criticism over its use of Chinese labour.

According to This is Money, the Chinese e-commerce giant is considering using suppliers closer to some of its main markets after a backlash against its plans to list on the London Stock Exchange.

This comes after Last month, Shein confidentially filed paperwork with the FCA.meaning a potential listing could happen before the end of the year.

Although the negative reaction from politicians, the press, other retailers and investors has worried Chinese officials, the fast fashion retailer is also reportedly considering a listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange as a contingency plan.

The British Fashion Council also shared its concerns about the listing on the London Stock Exchange, saying the listing was a “significant concern” for the industry and that “questions remain” about the company’s business practices.

Critics say Shein uses suppliers in China who exploit underpaid garment workers, allowing the company to sell clothes at low prices.

However, Shein recently told the Financial Times: “Shein has a zero-tolerance policy on forced labour. We take transparency seriously throughout our supply chain and are committed to respecting human rights.

“We require our contract producers to only source cotton from approved regions. We pay manufacturing suppliers competitive rates so they can pay their workers a fair wage.”
