7/01/2024

SmartThings, Samsung’s global smart living platform, launched SmartThings Energy Flex Connect, a demand response program that enhances smart device management and supports green living in California and New York. Through the program, eligible users can earn Samsung Rewards points when they register and automate their devices, supporting a more sustainable energy grid by saving energy during periods of peak demand.

Comprehensive energy management made easy

Managing home devices is now more convenient than ever for SmartThings users to gain advanced control over energy management through the SmartThings Energy Flex Connect program. Authorized users now have the ability to register supported devices with the program via SmartThings Energy, a service available in the SmartThings app, register devices such as thermostats, plugs, air conditioners, lights, TVs and appliances to automate participation in energy-related events and save energy when the net is tight.

More flexibility, choice and control

The flexibility to automate various loads such as thermostats, plugs, AC, lighting, TVs and home appliances in the program gives users choice and control over energy management, providing a personalized approach to energy saving. First, it can automatically enable AI power mode on SmartThings Energy to save additional power consumption on supported devices. Secondly, with the shutdown feature, users can use less energy by turning off their devices when necessary – this also applies to some third-party lamps and plugs. Finally, savings can also be achieved by intelligent temperature control using thermostats.

Authorized users can choose which devices participate in the program and adjust their preferences at any time. With automation capabilities built into SmartThings Energy, registered devices participate in an event when they receive a demand response signal, allowing users to operate the grid and save energy without lifting a finger or losing comfort. SmartThings Energy even helps users who don’t have any compatible devices by sending in-app notifications when a peak event occurs, so users can take their own energy-saving actions after receiving a notification.
