MHI invests in e-Zinc to advance long-term zinc energy storage

Using its proprietary technology, e-Zinc is developing zinc-air batteries that can provide long-term energy at a low cost. Zinc-air batteries are expected to offer advantages such as lower self-discharge, reduced wear due to repeated use, improved safety, and easier reuse compared to conventional lithium batteries. They also have a higher energy density than lead-acid batteries.

This investment will help accelerate e-Zinc’s development of demonstration and production capabilities to commercialize this low-cost, flexible and long-lasting energy storage solution. Going forward, MHI will continue to enhance and diversify its portfolio of solutions, providing its customers with alternative decarbonization technologies to achieve net zero emissions goals.
