Anwar calls for strategic change in the tourism sector

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia requires a change in goals, strategies and initiatives for the tourism sector, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He, therefore, said that the framework, incentives and infrastructure development set by the government must be coupled with private sector investment as they play a key role in designing tourism products and ensuring quality human resources.

This was one of the key points of the 2024 National Economic Action Council Meeting No. 5, which he chaired on Monday (July 1), with a deep focus and discussion on the tourism and public transport sectors.

“The aspect of improving the quality of existing public transport services was also discussed, including improving connections with urban rail stations.

“I believe that improving the public transport ecosystem in the country must go hand in hand with understanding the current shortcomings and taking corrective action,” Anwar said in a Facebook post. – Bernama
