Support for the development of local talent should be implemented in various sectors, says MY minister

Efforts to produce more local talent should be supported across sectors and not just high-tech, investment, trade and industry minister Zafrul Abdul Aziz, the industry minister has reportedly said.

During an official visit to several electrical, electronics and semiconductor plants in Penang, the minister reportedly noted that enterprises are actively supporting talent development in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as technical and vocational education and training.

The minister added that talent development is the nation’s responsibility and that the government aims to ensure that various industries support these activities to revitalize the Malaysian industrial sector.

Don’t miss: With this partnership, Malaysia could soon have its own “Silicon Valley.”

In a statement on Page X, the minister said the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS) aims to provide 60,000 skilled workers in the semiconductor sector to ensure that Malaysia has a sufficient number of skilled workers.

He added that vocational education and training is an important aspect of ensuring the continuity of the semiconductor industry. The minister hopes that through further cooperation, Malaysia will continue to be a major hub in the E&E and semiconductor sector.

According to the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), Malaysia is on track to become a high-income country by the end of the decade, earning it the nickname “Silicon Valley” of the East.

Chief economist Hoe Ee Khor reportedly said the country is supported by strong foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and a robust manufacturing sector, especially the semiconductor industry.

He reportedly added that Malaysia is expected to attract more semiconductor industries in the future and will be a major beneficiary of the revival in the semiconductor cycle.
