Survey shows Americans’ support for renewable energy is declining

A Pew Research Center study shows that some Americans are causing U.S. support for renewable energy to decline. While solar and wind power remain popular, support for their expansion is declining. In 2020, 90 percent of respondents supported the expansion of solar energy, but that number has now dropped to 78 percent. Wind has seen a similar decline, from 83 percent in 2020 to 72 percent today.

“While there remains broad public support for renewable energy, the breadth of that support is less than it was four years ago, or even a year ago,” says Alec Tyson, lead author of the report and deputy research director at Pew. The Pew report, titled “How Americans View National, Local and Personal Energy Choices,” shows moderate interest in electric vehicles.

Survey respondents show reluctance to take on initiatives such as phasing out gas-powered vehicles. Three in 10 Americans would consider buying an electric vehicle.
