A Look at Louisiana’s Renewable Energy Future; How Child Care Workers Are Adapting to Warmer Summer Temperatures

A new study by LSU researchers finds that an overwhelming number of Louisiana residents support expanding offshore oil and gas drilling in the state and developing renewable energy sources. The Louisiana Survey 2024 is the latest in an annual series of statewide surveys conducted by the Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs at Louisiana State University’s Manship School of Mass Communication. It examines residents’ views on energy, the environment and coastal issues.

Michael Henderson, director of the study, gives us a summary of the results.

As summers in the South get warmer, the ways kids spend their summers are changing out of necessity. Drew Hawkins of the Gulf States Newsroom reports on how child care workers are adapting to keep kids warm.

Offshore wind farms haven’t arrived on the Louisiana coast yet — but onshore students are already learning how to maintain them. A first-of-its-kind program at Nunez Community College in Chalmette will welcome its first class this fall. Its goal is to train students to become entry-level turbine technicians in the growing wind energy sector.

Tristan Baurick is a reporter for Verite News and recently wrote about the new show. He joins us with the details.
