By Alimat Aliyeva

Germany has set a new record for electricity production from renewable energy sources (RES) – wind, solar and biomass. Record results were achieved for the second time in six months. Azernews reports.

This follows from the article “Germany: 58% of electricity is generated from renewable sources”, published by the German edition of Deutsche Welle (DW).

According to estimates by the Baden-Württemberg State Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) and the Federal Association of Energy and Water Supply Companies (BDEW), published on 1 July by the dpa news agency, the share of electricity production from renewable sources amounted to 58 percent in the first half of this year.

In the first half of 2023, this indicator was 52%. Total electricity consumption in the country amounted to 261 billion kWh, down 0.3% year-on-year.

Electricity generated from renewable sources in the first half of 2024 covered more than half of the country’s monthly demand, BDEW noted. Of the 58 percent of electricity generated from renewable sources, 24 percent came from wind power, 14 percent from photovoltaic systems, nine percent from biomass, five percent from offshore wind and one percent from household waste.
