Waste management firm expands with Cumbria takeover

Stokesley-based waste management specialist Universal Tankers has expanded its offering in the north of England with the acquisition of H. & E. Trotter. Based in Penrith, Cumbria, H. & E. Trotter specialises in septic tank servicing.

Universal Tankers specialises in wastewater and liquid disposal and has branches throughout the UK, offering a wide range of waste management services to suit the needs of different commercial sectors. The company is licensed to operate 15 trucks and 15 trailers from two bases in Penrith and Carlisle.

The acquisition of H. & E. Trotter enhances the company’s commercial offering and enables it to expand its existing operations in Cumbria. Universal Tankers said the transaction would enhance its waste management services in the region, enabling it to offer a range of waste management services including food waste, tank and sewage treatment plants, bulk water supply and social accommodation units for construction and event sites.

Universal Tankers managing director Toby Gunn said the integration of H. & E. Trotters’ wet waste operations and his own experienced team “will ensure a smooth transition for existing customers, while maintaining the high standards they expect”.

He added: “We are delighted to welcome the wet waste business of H. & E. Trotter to the Universal Tanker group. Both the Trotter family and Universal Tankers share a commitment to exceptional service, which we believe is essential to providing our customers with the highest level of service. Our aim is to ensure that we maintain the high standards that our customers expect.

“We look forward to providing our new customers in the North of England and Cumbria with the same Universal Tanker experience.”

The UK M&A sector is expected to recover in the coming months after a slow start to 2024.
