Macfarlane Packaging launches ninth annual unpacking survey

Protective packaging distributor Macfarlane Packaging today (1 July) announced the launch of its ninth annual Unboxing Survey.

The study aims to gather consumer opinions on the packaging practices used by online retailers. This will allow for a better understanding of consumers’ experiences with e-commerce packaging and the role it plays in online shopping habits.

According to Macfarlane Packaging, this year’s edition of the survey will focus on consumer preferences for sustainable packaging, in particular the use of recyclable materials and the amount of packaging materials used by retailers.

It will also investigate the impact of branded packaging on consumer loyalty and repeat purchases.

The survey aims to understand consumers’ experiences with the ease of opening packages, as well as their opinions on damage, the returns process and overall satisfaction with the unboxing experience.

Macfarlane Packaging is offering nine prizes to encourage participation in the study, with applications open until 19 August 2024.

Rachel Fellows, Retail and 3PL Director at Macfarlane Packaging, said: “Packaging is such an important part of the online shopping experience for consumers, it’s crucial that e-commerce businesses find the right balance between sustainability, accessibility and branding, while protecting their products.

“By asking consumers to share their experiences directly, we can help our customers focus on this important part of the purchasing process. Participants have not held back in years past, and we don’t expect them to do so in this, the ninth year of the unboxing survey.”

In May this year, Macfarlane Group announced a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 1,420 tonnes, or 22% in absolute terms, by 2023.

“Macfarlane Packaging launches ninth annual Unpacking Report” was originally created and published by Packaging Gateway, a GlobalData brand.
