Savion announced the closing of an agreement to sell the 150-megawatt (MW) Cass County Solar Project to Ameren Missouri. Additionally, approximately 600 acres outside the project area will be restored to agricultural use through vegetation.

Savion received permit approval for the project in 2020 and began construction in June 2023. Ameren Missouri received approval and a Certificate of Suitability and Necessity for the transaction from the Missouri Public Service Commission in June 2024, facilitating the transfer of ownership of the Cass County Solar project.

Nick Lincon, Savion president, commended Ameren Missouri for its commitment to bringing the project to fruition, which marked Savion’s first utility-scale solar project in Illinois. Lincon also acknowledged the support received from the local community, landowners and stakeholders throughout the development process.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2024, after creating approximately 250 local union jobs during the construction phase. Once operational, the Cass County Solar Project is expected to generate 150 MW of renewable solar energy, contributing to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) power grid. This production is expected to meet the annual energy needs of approximately 27,500 homes served by Ameren Missouri customers.
