Here’s How to Connect to T-Mobile’s 5G SA Network on Your iPhone

In November 2022, T-Mobile introduced its Ultra Capacity 5G SA network. At the time of its launch, only Samsung’s flagship devices could support the feature. The un-carrier also promised to extend 5G SA service to iPhones in March 2023 with the release of iOS 16.4.

But for T-Mo’s 5G SA network to work on your iPhone, you need to configure your iPhone to support the service. You can do this by going to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & DataAt the bottom, you will find the 5G Standalone switch that you can use to enable this feature.

Under this switch Apple wrote:

“5G Standalone uses 5G for all cellular activity, including cellular network connections. This may impact battery life and voice and data call reliability.”

That means you need to consider whether you want to spend all your battery juice on it. If your battery is low, you can turn off 5G Standalone to save battery.

You can also do a speed test by dialing 3001#12345# from your phone. This will allow you to see your 5G connection speed.
