Govt issues high-risk warning to Google Chrome users in India

ChromeOS users should pay attention to the latest warning from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), which is the body authorized to cyber security threats in India. It suggested that there was a high-risk warning for Google ChromeOS. The warning suggested that multiple vulnerabilities affected the LTS channel for ChromeOS. These vulnerabilities pose a significant risk.

According to the vulnerability note provided by CERT-In, the identified vulnerabilities affect Google ChromeOS versions prior to 120.0.6099.315 (platform version: 15662.112). The vulnerabilities occurred due to a “heap buffer overflow in WebRTC and use-after-free in a multimedia session,” which could allow a remote attacker to exploit this complex web of vulnerabilities by tracking a victim and visiting a specially crafted website, the vulnerability note mentioned.

To address critical security issues, ChromeOS, Google suggested in a blog post that the latest update has been released to fix the issues — Heap buffer overflow in WebRTC and Use after free in a multimedia session. Google confirmed that LTS-120 has been updated to the LTS (Long Term Support) channel, version 120.0.6099.315. Therefore, it is recommended to update your Chrome version to the latest update. These updates include key security fixes that address identified vulnerabilities, significantly improving overall protection.
