Apple Releases iOS 17.6 Developer Beta 2 With New Catch Up Feature and Bug Fixes

Apple on Monday released the second developer beta of iOS 17.6, building on last week’s initial beta. The update focuses on stability and performance improvements, with a few new features and bug fixes. Interestingly, it introduces a new “Catch Up” feature in the Apple TV app for sports fans, allowing them to jump into the highlights of ongoing games.

New Catch Up Feature

With Catch Up, users can quickly catch up on their favorite sports matches without having to watch the entire game from start to finish. This feature was originally announced for the MLS Season Pass and is now being expanded to the Apple TV app.

Fixed bugs and made improvements

The iOS 17.6 Developer Beta 2 update also fixes several known issues, including:

  • Troubleshooting Bluetooth Headphone Playback Issues Using Specific AVAudioSession Configurations
  • Prevent home screen icons from being disabled when reinstalling apps from the Marketplace
  • Fixed notification errors when launching Marketplace apps with expired licenses
    Additional beta updates

In addition to iOS 17.6, Apple also released the second developer betas of iPadOS 17.6, watchOS 10.6, tvOS 17.6, and visionOS 1.3. These updates are primarily aimed at developers and beta testers, with stable versions planned to be released in the coming weeks.

How to get the update

To access the iOS 17.6 Developer Beta 2 update, users will need to sign up for the Apple Developer Program, which is free to join now by providing an Apple ID. Since Apple is launching the beta programs for iOS 17 and iOS 18 at the same time, users will need to choose their preferred operating system when signing up.

The last major update of iOS 17

iOS 17.6 is expected to be the last major update to iOS 17, as attention now turns to the upcoming iOS 18, which was announced at WWDC 2024 in June and is set to be released later this year.
